As you probably already know, Republican attorney Jill Simpson has offered important new testimony on Karl Rove's apparent efforts to use the Justice Department to "get" Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, a Democrat. Marcy Wheeler makes
a great catch:
Set aside the Siegelman case for a second. If Simpson's testimony is truthful, it means Karl Rove had significant sway over the Public Integrity Section at DOJ in early 2005. The Abramoff investigation was in full swing. As was the CIA Leak investigation. Both of which Rove was personally implicated in.
If you're not fully up to speed on the Siegelman case, you'll want to read Larisa Alexandrovna
here, as well her
latest.
Just a reminder, as Ms. Simpson (a GOP lawyer) was giving her deposition in Alabama, her house mysteriously caught on fire and her car was run off the road.
Coincidence. Pure coincidence.
