Does California hate America?

CNN's Glenn Beck says that Californians who lost their homes in the current fires "hate America." If that's so, then why do Californians give more to the federal government than we receive in goods and services?

The so-called red states are, for the most part, leech states: They take more from the feds than they pay in taxes. (Texas was a leech state until recently; now, it more-or-less breaks even.) Red-staters live on disability checks while cursing the gummint and those godless heathens in Californ-eye-yay. Those with jobs rely on pork projects. Or they work at Wal-Mart, which means that blue states taxpayers cover the doctor bills when Billy-Bob and Betty-Sue have their fourteenth whelp.

Do we hate America? We love it so much that we fund it disproportionately. However, we do not need America; California would be much more prosperous without any ties to Washington.

All we ask from the leeches is the occasional "thank you." Instead, we get guys like Glenn Beck.

Joseph I believe when talking about Glen Beck, the proper term is Zorrero. This is the guy who calls Al Gore Hitler, Hillary is a "stereotypical bitch" and Michael Moore, well Beck has said on his programs that he wishes he could go out and kill Moore himself. I don't think there is any other word than Zorrero. But at the same time, are you at all surprised by any of his diatribes?

While i don't think you "Love" Michael Parenti, I do think that a lot of what we see on the other side, spectrum-wise, of the peepees, is this phenomenon he calls Superpatriotism. Not only do you have to "love your country," blindly, but you have to accept any and all foreign policies just as much as you have to wave the flag and cheer when the missiles pass by on floats during the parades. And anyone who dares questions what's going on must be labeled as an America-hater..

Not much has changed since Samuel Johnson said; "Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels."

Hey, Parenti is okay with me. Thanks for the comment!
