Dye! Dye! Dye!

Why did Osama Bin Laden dye his hair for his most recent video appearance? The cosmetic change has led many to ask whether the fellow on screen really is Osama. When I brought up this conundrum a couple of days ago, a reader argued that hair colorant is a popular affectation among Arab leaders.

So I did some checking. King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, who ruled until 2005, sported an unnaturally dark beard. The present Saudi King, Abdullah, has facial hair which appears to have been dyed black. So does Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar. So does Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai. So does Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan, the Emir of Abu Dabi.

The only exception seems to be King Hussein of Jordan, who unashamedly embraces the greyish-white look.

So Osama's dye job does not prove his latest video to be inauthentic. Of course, many would question it on other grounds.

Joseph: Welcome back. I hope you are feeling better. My opinion on the Osama video? He probably "dyed" his beard based on feedback from the focus group from whatever alphabet soup agency employes him. After all, a "younger" looking Osama is much scarier. Woooooohhhhhh!!!!!

I don't think the latest one is a fake "fake", I think it's an original "fake" (I don't really believe the OBL mythology to start with).

The worse fake "fake" out there is the one they claim to have discovered inside a house in Afghanistan just after the invasion in mid November 2001 (I imagine marines had to go through the Taliban entire collection of recoreded "America's Funiest Video" before finding this gem).

December 13, 2001: Authenticity of Bin Laden ‘Confession’ Video Is Disputed.

And this is the only early video where he claimed responsability for 9/11. Apart from this very convenient video confession found a couple of months after 9/11, what are the real EVIDENCE that OBL was linked to 9/11 ?

FBI Most wanted. I always wondered why they didn't had the time yet to add 9/11 to the list of crimes he's charged with.

"It does look oddly like he is wearing a false beard," Richard Clarke, a former White House counterterrorism official and now ABC News consultant, said. "If we go back to the tape three years, he had a very white beard. This looks like a phony beard that has been passed on."

The "phony beard" may be an important clue as to where bin Laden is hiding, according to Clarke.

"One place where a beard would stand out would be southeast Asia, the Philippines, Indonesia," Clarke told ABC News. "No one's thought he was there, but that is an environment where most men, Muslim men don't have beards."

Latest Bin Laden Video Is a Forgery: All References to Current Events Are Made During Video Freeze

Osama Bin Laden's widely publicized video address to the American people has a peculiarity that casts serious doubt on its authenticity: the video freezes at about 1 minute and 58 seconds, and motion only resumes again at 12:30. The video then freezes again at 14:02 remains frozen until the end. All references to current events, such as the 62nd anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Japan, and Sarkozy and Brown being the leaders of France and the UK, respectively, occur when the video is frozen! The words spoken when the video is in motion contain no references to contemporary events and could have been (and likely were) made before the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

I was watching OBL on tv in the gym and don't know which channel this was on.... but they ran an old clip of him speaking beside this new clip. If you watch his face, his cheeks do not move the same when he speaks. His beard looks different and I doubt miss clairol is available in tora bora.....
so that leaves all of us with a " coinky dink" right?
