Here's how to remove Bush and Cheney

I just deleted a trollish commenter to an earlier post. The comment harped on a point that I had hoped never to hear again: "Nancy Pelosi said that impeachment is off the table! Nancy Pelosi must be working for THEM!"

Oh, dear Lord. Don't you people get it? Do I have to explain it one more time? Guess so...

Let me first make clear that I am a strong proponent of impeachment. I will be pushing the idea nearly every day.

But please understand that I am not the sort of purist who embraces noble failure as the only permissible course of political action. I think we must do whatever is necessary to topple Dick and Dubya in real life, not just in theory; the fate of the world depends on it. These creeps still want to see nukes a-flying in the Middle East, and they are still tossing our national treasure into the garbage.

And so we must exercise what Bugs used to call stragety.

Pelosi will soon be third in line to the presidency. If she had said "Impeachment is on the table" before the election, the Democrats would not have won the mid-terms and thus would not be in a position to bring impeachment about. Why? Because she would have changed the national storyline from "My god, Bush is an effing moron!" to "My god, Nancy's trying to stage a coup!"

Even now, after the elections, the right-wing pundits are just dying to make Nancy Pelosi the protagonist of the national debate. If Dems are smart, they will do what they can to keep the spotlight on the effing moron.

What, then, is the stragety?

1. INVESTIGATE. The rats have been a-leaping overboard; someone will talk, and documents will float about. We are bound to hear of some new behind-the-scenes atrocity which will eclipse all the atrocities we've seen -- or, at the very least, will have the shock of the new. Support both congressional and non-congressional investigations into the sins of the past six years.

2. AGITATE. Do whatever you can to create ground-level pressure. Lead the leaders. Don't get pissy when they don't do your job for you; street heat cannot be generated in D.C. March, rally, write letters, petition, put up posters, annoy right-wing radio hosts, make impeachment the one item that the public is talking about. Create fury. As Iraq falls to pieces, fury won't be a rare commodity.

3. SUPPORT your congressional leaders. This may be the toughest step for most of you, since progressives just love, love, love to form a circular firing squad. For once in your damned lives, be realistic.

When you ask people to support impeachment of Bush and Cheney, your listeners will quite reasonably ask you "Who will replace them?" In other words, impeachment season is campaign season, and Nancy Pelosi -- like it or not -- is your candidate. There are still a couple hundred million ignorant people out there who have all sorts of silly misapprehensions about San Franciscans. You are asking these people to contemplate putting Nancy Pelosi into the oval office, at least for a brief time.

She is the -- and I mean the -- only alternative to Bush until 2008. You don't like her? Then you must like Bush. You have no third choice. Stop whining, babies, and come to grips with what IS. Support Nancy Pelosi, praise her, try to quell the fears of those couple hundred million numbskulls. You have no third choice, and that is that.

If you want to kick Bush out of office prematurely -- if you want actually to DO that thing instead of just wishing for it -- then you must understand that Nancy Pelosi cannot seem to be a coup plotter. She must be the last person on this planet to use the I-word, and even then, she must make a big show of acting more in sorrow than in anger. Until then, don't get angry if she does not offer explicit support for the cause, because if she supports it, she will scuttle it. (If need be, repeat the previous two sentences fifty times until the message finally sinks in.)

That's the stragety.

It can work. The Republicans know it. That's why they are paying stooges to fill blogs with comments saying "Nancy said off the table! Bad Nancy! Both parties are the same! It's more important for her to say the right words than to kick Bush out of office! Purity! Purity! If you don't follow the path of purity, you're just like Rove!"

Don't listen. Those people are tools of the Devil. The Evil One often disguises himself as an angel of light.

Stick with the plan and stick it to the man.

I think the PTB will do it differently, and in the manner they've done it in the past.

First, you replace the vp with a person known to be compliant with the PTB agenda. (Gerald Ford for Agnew, then Nelson put in as Ford's vp. Ford immediately had 3 attempts on his life, before he replaced Rockie with Bob Dole).

Then, with the replacement already there, you get the top spot removed in whatever way will work.

So I look for this as of now unknown replacement for Cheney (poor guy, but with the history of heart disease he had, it's not that surprising he passed on) to be the PTB's pick as the next president, not Ms. Pelosi.

How they get Bush out will be interesting, to say the least.

Dear Joseph,

thank you for the voice of reason. I completely agree with you and will let Nancy's staff know about your post.

The ReThugs are desperate to play up folks discomfort with SF and gay issues and will do anything to marginalize and radicalize Nancy Pelosi. They will try to "jane fondacize" Pelosi and it just ain't gonna stick.

Nancy is levelheaded, reasonable, has her good days along with the bad days and was the next biggest fundraiser for the Dems after Bill Clinton. she worked tirelessly on fundraising for over 100 different candidates for the "take back the house". Just because she represents progressive citizens, I am in her district, doesn't mean that we are all flaming liberals. We aren't. Let me tell ya folks that I have been chased, yes chased, and yelled at off Andronico's premises for having put up an ironing board providing campaign literature for SF Sup Tom Ammiano when he was running for mayor after he won on a write-in vote against Willie Brown. Maybe 20% at most of the folks here in SF are gay or bi but it is absolutely no big deal. We are more concerned about getting a parking space at Whole Foods' jammed parking lot or whether our neighbors are picking up after their dogs or whether we get approached by homeless downtown.

by the way, all of the NSA and the non-gov intelligence contractors who troll these blogs, I want to tell you that SF is NOT against the military. Just because our SF board of sups vote against having military recruiting in our schools doesn't mean that we are against the military.

We are, the vast majority of San Franciscans, are against the war in Iraq because it is a self-serving war designed to take Iraq's oil assets off the market and enable the oil cartels to triple the price of oil.

I want to tell you intelligence/militaryhomeland security folks who get paid to read blogs like Cannonfire's that I support the military and self-defense and I'll be the first to enlist and pick up an AK47 and use it to defend our nation against enemies like we had in WWII where we were fighting against real enemies.

You won't get any of this horseshit about being against the military from SF in Anon. WE SUPPORT THE MILITARY WE JUST DON'T SUPPORT THE CORRUPT INCOMPETENT USELESS WAS IN IRAQ THAT ONLY SERVES TO ENRICH HALLIBURTON AND FRIENDS OF BUSH. OK? got that?

don't forget that England had the BALLS to allow gays in the military since 1993, that is now 13 years ago. it's no big thing. The big thing must be how incredibly boring having sex with whiny controlling overweight out of shape wives who stopped being attractive when they turned 35. Sort of like the Ted Haggert wife.

Yikes.

I equate foolish with something more along the lines of, oh, say, voting for Bush in the first place? Or the second place? And leaving us to clean up your dirty messes? But hey, we're up for it. We've done it many times before.

Besides, in thinking about it, I'm far more intrigued by the long and thorough investigative journey we'll be taking for the next couple of years. Heck, why cut it short? Relish every moment.

Miss P.

Speaking of, ahem, sticking it to the man, is anyone else participating in that whole "global orgasm" thing on the 22nd? I think the idea is that the resultant happy vibes will send a ton of anti-aggressive energies out into the cosmos--yeah, I know. But it's supposed to stop the war! Come on--so to speak--orgasm for peace.

The 22nd, by the by, is Fitzgerald's birthday. So if you can't get in the mood by thinking of peace, think of Fitz (who also needs good vibes, I've heard). That should make it easy.

hey, i posted here a veritable screed against nancy when she first uttered those words, so i can honestly say with supporting documented evidence that i'm all for the full throttle impeachment, just as joe is.

but, it did not take me long to consider the larger implications of taking a measured approach, and i quickly posted the wisdom of advocating just that.

so, in short, i wholly and fully agree with joe. and i don't believe it's outside of a reasonable perspective to believe that the dems have consciously and openly discussed this in their closed door sessions. they know the score, and they know how far in the red, in the hole, bush and his crew have fallen.

and, as i pointed out in one of my posts, we absolutely MUST grant even these criminals the justice we are claiming they have violated!! THIS IS KEY!! otherwise we lose the high ground we would require they must also tred with honor.

speaking of honor, donnie, if you are serving in that uniform you sport in that fine photo, may i thank you from the depths of my heart? we here would love to hear more of your thoughts and feelings, as well as those of your fellows, if you can.
thank you. thank you. our greatest support is with you.

How simple it will be...Cheney resignes...bush appoints one who will serve him well....then he resigns and is pardoned along with Cheney, Rumsfield, Rice and Bush....
then where do we go....will the world court help us put these thugs behind bars??????

People are dying everyday! Bush must be removed from office before he can attack Iran. It takes no courage to come foward now and Impeach Bush for illegal wiretapping etc. The majority of the American people are already behind it, and look at her district in SF. It is not her choice to take impeachment off the table, the democrats are not 'playing chess' they are backing down like they always do and must be forced to take action on the behalf of the people. Nancy Pelosi voted for the Iran Freedom Support Act along with John Conyers, Barbara Boxer...so with your plans looks like we'll bring freedom and democracy to Iran soon.
