You can expect that the U.S. will do everything in its power -- *everything* -- to prevent a full recount, because the example of an over-turned right-wing result would be disastrous for the Republican party here at home, and the neoliberal program abroad.

Then again, Americans are so used to taking it up the digestive track and doing what they're told, they may be incapable of learning a lesson. And maybe it's Al Gore and John Kerry who should be watching the show.... They might learn something about the true meaning of public service.

Even if a recount is done, it will be a fake one, like the recounts that were done in Ohio that were rigged and sanctioned by Triad voting machine reps and the various county election officials who acted in concert with Blackwell to "fix" the recounts so they would "match" the results.

A real recount can't be done when power is held by the party in power because they will ultimately control which votes get counted.

Bush jr. has already "called" the Mexico election and congratulated Calderon before the election has been certified. This is standard practice: call the race before the election has been certified to deflect any concerns about the integrity of the election itself.

The switch to dictatorship/police state here in the US is almost complete: two stolen elections, stacking the deck with Christian/catholic/rightwing/compliant judges in the courts, control of both houses and the presidency.

The rightwingnuts republic-fascists have accomplished what they wanted without a messy war. The next 5 to 10 years will be spent carrying out the edicts, the plans to turn this country back to a McCarthy fifties nightmare version where anyone who doesn't agree and support the bush Repub-o-thugs agenda will be targeted, attacked, undermined and eventually shipped off to one of the new Halliburton political detention camps to be 'retrained' doing slave labor if they don't die of 'natural causes' first.

What a horrible place the so-called democractic "United States of America" is becoming: a disneyland cartoonish version of a third world country like chile or venezuela or mexico in which a handful of powerful families live in complete luxury at the expense of a majority of laborers who don't have enough food to feed their kids let alone provide an education for them.
